Violence Erupts Outside Glasgow Fighting Championship
A brawl erupted outside a bare-knuckle fighting event in Glasgow, leading to the arrest of two individuals and injuries to several police officers. The altercation took place near the Clyde Arc bridge, quickly escalating into a significant street disturbance.
Police, responding swiftly to the scene, detained two men aged 32 and 27. They face multiple charges, including assault and obstructing law enforcement. The incident, which occurred around Congress Road near the Ovo Hydro, involved a large police response, with over 20 vehicles and a helicopter deployed.
The evening event, part of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), drew thousands of spectators. Inside the venue, Sean Weir from Wishaw secured a quick victory over Manchester’s Leigh Cohoon. The fight was stopped early by the referee, but outside, a different battle brewed.
Police Officers Injured During Response
During the chaotic scene, three officers sustained injuries, with two requiring medical attention. Chief Inspector Paul Daley emphasized the severity of such violence against police, underscoring that assaults on officers will be met with legal consequences.
Following the arrests, police confirmed that a third individual received a recorded warning and inquiries into the incident continue. Authorities are determined to bring all responsible parties to justice and have urged witnesses to come forward with information.
As the men involved await their court appearance, the community remains hopeful for a resolution that reinforces the stance against such disorderly conduct. The event at the Hydro, intended for sports entertainment, was overshadowed by the unfortunate street violence.
