Boosting Wellbeing with Seated Exercises in Jersey
In Jersey, a series of seated exercise classes have transformed the landscape of physical fitness and mental wellness for participants. These classes, offered by the Laugh, Move & Groove group, have garnered significant attention for their unique approach to keeping people active, especially those with varying levels of physical ability.
The initiative, which travels to community centers and care homes, focuses not just on physical health but also on mental rejuvenation. The stated goal is to deliver a holistic sense of wellbeing by combining physical movement with social interaction and laughter. This innovative combination has proven to be in high demand, with many sessions fully booked.
The classes are accessible and engaging, offering an environment where each participant can exercise at their own pace. Linda Crawford, a regular at these sessions, highlighted the considerable benefits she has experienced since joining. “It’s more challenging than expected,” she shared, emphasizing how the exercises have contributed to her physical health and mental calmness.
Aside from personal health benefits, the sense of community fostered in these classes cannot be overstated. Jackie Turner, one of the dedicated volunteers, notes that the social connections formed during these sessions are invaluable, especially for older individuals who may feel socially isolated. Through laughter and shared activity, participants develop friendships and a stronger sense of community belonging.
Additionally, the Laugh, Move & Groove initiative is not without recognition. The group’s impactful work has earned them a place on the shortlist for the BBC Radio Jersey Make a Difference Awards, with winners set to be announced soon.
