Lib Dem’s Patrick Stillman Aims for Holborn and St Pancras Seat

The Liberal Democrats have announced that Patrick Stillman, a current Camden councillor, will stand as their candidate in the upcoming by-election for the Holborn and St Pancras constituency. This election follows the exit of Sir Keir Starmer, who is leaving his role as an MP to pursue a career in international affairs.

Having recently been elected as a councillor for the West Hampstead ward, Stillman is well-integrated into local politics and was the outgoing chairman of the Camden Liberal Democrats. He expressed pride in being chosen to represent his party in this election, scheduled for 8 October. Stillman has made it clear that he plans to campaign actively in the hope of connecting with voters and promoting the Liberal Democrats’ message.

Stillman criticizes what he describes as the “chaos” within the current Labour government and takes aim at the Green Party, accusing them of leveraging the by-election for their own leadership agendas. Emphasizing a “distinct, confident liberal message,” he aims to address critical issues such as housing and safety, which he sees as vital for young Londoners aiming to establish their futures in the city.

The race for the Holborn and St Pancras seat is shaping up to be competitive. Stillman will be contending against Camden Council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali representing Labour, Green Party head Zack Polanski, and former Conservative councillor Ewan Cameron. All candidates are keenly preparing for the elections, with nominations closing promptly at 16:00 BST on the upcoming Tuesday.
