Paris Saint-Germain’s winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, is set to undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) diagnosed following a match against Barcelona in the Champions League. The incident occurred during a clash with Xavi Espart, leading to Kvaratskhelia’s departure from the field as he struggled to bear weight on his leg.
This misfortune struck during Kvaratskhelia’s first starting appearance of the season. PSG emerged victorious with a 4-2 result at the Parc des Princes, although the Georgian was forced to leave the game in the 59th minute. There has been no official statement from PSG regarding the winger’s timeline for recovery.
Key Player for PSG
The 25-year-old joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has since been instrumental in the club’s back-to-back Champions League victories. This season alone, Kvaratskhelia has been involved in 11 matches, showcasing his importance to the team’s line-up.
PSG’s victory against Barcelona saw them move to the top of their Champions League group, maintaining an undefeated streak with three wins from three matches. The match was levelled at 2-2 until a late surge saw the Parisian side score twice, securing their triumph.
Further Injury Concerns
Besides Kvaratskhelia’s predicament, PSG’s squad faces additional injury setbacks. Ousmane Dembele is sidelined with a thigh problem, while Marquinhos is also recovering from a similar thigh injury. Both players are expected to be out for the next few weeks, potentially impacting PSG’s forthcoming fixtures.
Despite these challenges, PSG aims to continue their successful form in the Champions League. The team will have to adapt and rely on their squad depth to maintain momentum as they navigate these injury issues.
