Reform UK Cleared in Internal Inquiry Over Donations Controversy

An internal investigation by Reform UK has determined that the party did not violate election laws, following an undercover operation that alleged attempts to secure foreign donations. The inquiry was initiated after senior party officials were covertly recorded discussing strategies for receiving funds from international sources.

The probe primarily focused on high-ranking members, including Dan Jukes, a senior advisor to Nigel Farage, and James Orr, the head of policy at Reform UK. Both individuals temporarily vacated their roles during the investigation’s proceedings. Reform UK’s internal review concluded that neither Jukes nor Orr engaged in activities that breached legal statutes.

This development surfaced after footage filmed by Verbatim Investigations was released by Channel 4 News. It depicted party aides contemplating a method to bypass UK electoral law in order to facilitate foreign donations, with one potential contribution amounting to £500,000.

Despite the internal findings, the Metropolitan Police have commenced a separate criminal inquiry to assess allegations regarding violations of foreign fundraising regulations. Reform UK has announced that it will defer decisions on the future roles of Jukes and Orr until the police investigation is concluded.

As this situation unfolds, it continues to cast a spotlight on how political parties manage financial contributions and adhere to electoral regulations. Both public scrutiny and official investigations are intensifying around the party’s fundraising activities, maintaining keen interest in the outcome of the ongoing police probe.
